Project Ideas
This is a gathering place for ideas that folks have for "new" software projects. There is always a lot of work to do, and if a new member wants to take on and "own" something, they are more than welcome to do so!
Channel Utilization Visualiser
We have these spreadsheets that track what frequencies, antennas we are using at certain hubs. The spreadsheet is updated by hand + a small number of formulas. As you can imagine, this is somewhat tedious to maintain. It would be great if someone could use data available from the UISP API and build a system to automatically track and monitor these frequencies.
There is more info in slack, but you'll have to search for it. If you have questions, flag a question in #mesh-services and an experienced volunteer can talk out the project with you.
There are many other ongoing project you can help as well if you want to help but not "own" the project.
Many "add-on", bug fixes, for MeshDB.
Joint us on Slack and meet us at the #mesh-room (see #meeting).
Ezri and Sam were thinking of working on this, or exploring UISP's offerings more deeply to see if they'd work.
Join Form Wizard
There's talk of writing a new join form flow, replacing the old one, that would ask a series of questions in order to expedite the sign in process and prevent people from needing to give us too much PII up front.
- Expedite Grand St Guild and other large, unique hub signups
- Quickly indicate to new members what the presence of mesh is in their neighborhood and how likely it is they can connect
- Give people a price estimate based on whether or not they're in a hub and other factors
We already have an updated flow through Support Ticket that will refrain from asking for panoramas if they're at a hub.

There were a lot of ideas thrown around by Andrew, Rob, Claire, and Wes at the 2025-08-26 org meeting.
Outreach Image Management
Julian Prairie and the other outreach volunteers would like a better photo management system to organize their photos and videos. We don't have enough cost effective cloud storage for them, so the thinking was some kind of self-hosted solution.
- Immich is a good candidate for this, plus potentially some custom code for scraping photos off of Slack. It is a challenge to organize the photos on slack, on peoples' devices, etc.
Frank and Claire were thinking of working on this at the 2025-08-26 org meeting
